EESIMIX static mixer

It is a well known fact that static mixers are an absolute requirement for crude oil sampling. The same applies to water cut measurements in large pipes, irrespective of the technology involved. A small amount of energy is required to adequately mix oil and water in a pipeline using conventional shear, reverse flow and collision to produce a homogeneous mixture of water droplets and oil droplets downstream of the mixing element with minimal net pressure drop.

One of the main problems is density differences between oil and water. This problem manifests itself in bottom water flowing at the base of the pipe. Although a inline permittivity measuring device may measure the complete annulus of liquid in the spool piece used, slugging, particularly at low flow rates can cause severe separation of oil and water.

EESIFLO manufactures the range of EESIMIX static mixers which are normally supplied alongside watercut meters . We also supply these to manufacturers and users of crude oil sampling systems. The EESIMIX inline mixer can be supplied in sizes 1 inch to 48 inches and in pressure ratings from 150 ANSI to 2500 ANSI. The mixers can be fabricated in carbon steel, stainless steel or Duplex. Each unit is factory pressure tested and weld inspected to conform to international standards. Each mixer is designed and manufactured to meet the task required by the application . Mixers used with automatic crude oil sampling systems can be supplied with an optional port for sampler insertion.

Key Features

  • Measurement of water content of crude oil in pipelines
  • Desalting crude oil with water
  • Mixing additives into gasoline or fuel oil
  • Adjusting the viscosity of heavy fuel oil with gas oil
  • Mixing of injected chemicals into pipelines

More about EESIMIX static mixers

EESIMIX Static mixers are a row of carefully designed fixed mixing elements permanently welded within a pipe . The mixers use the full force of the process flow stream to enable mixing between two or more fluids. EESIMIX’s design of static mixer creates very little pressure drop and the greatest amount of mixing . Our mixers are also used in blending processes as well as crude oil mixing. Static mixers are also called “motionless mixers” This is because the mixing is done by permanently affixed mixing fins, obstructions, or channels mounted in pipes, designed for promoting mixing as fluid flows through the mixer.

The criteria for using motionless mixers is to achieve homogeneity of composition in a liquid without the need for external process mixing, which can be very costly and often questionable. When sizing/designing a static mixer there are two main factors to consider .The velocity at which a mixer can process materials, also known as its flow rate, is a rated measurement based on the volume of product the mixer can process during given period of time. If the flow rate is known, it is possible to calculate the number of mixing elements required to produce a homogeneous mixture. For crude oil mixing, it is important that a crude oil sampler or a watercut meter on a bypass is sampling or sensing representatively. Water and oil do not mix readily and in a process stream will tend to separate out. This phenomena worsens as the watercut increases. Placing a probe in the centre of the pipe to retrieve a crude oil sample for a sampling system or BS&W monitor will not give meaningful results without static mixing. This has been proven time and time again over the years both in the field and in laboratory simulations.
